FAQ

Q: Is solar PV equipment sold in BC exempt from taxes?

A: GST is payable on all solar equipment purchased in BC.
PST is not payable on solar systems or solar panels.

However equipment that is bought individually (apart from panels) is taxable so it is best to buy all of your solar system at one time.

Extracted from the Tax Department’s list of PST exemptions:

(j) solar photovoltaic collector panels;
(k) controllers, wiring and devices that convert direct current into alternating current, if they are obtained together with and as part of a system that includes solar photovoltaic collector panels.

I need some help here.
Both folk with Solar Installs AND those are curious about the practicalities and financial implications must have questions that we can answer from the group’s depth and breadth of experience.
